Abstract: The global transition to renewable energy is reshaping residential heating technology, a crucial domain for achieving significant reductions in greenhouse gas emissions. However, improvements in energy efficiency and the adoption of renewable energy often have unintended consequences, most notably the rebound effect, in which behavioral responses partially offset the expected energy savings or environmental gains. This thesis focuses on defining, measuring, and analyzing rebound effects in residential heating systems based on low-carbon fuels. These phenomena are not marginal anomalies but systemic outcomes of household decision-making in the context of energy transition. By integrating public economics and experimental methods, this research provides new insights and practical tools for designing more effective energy transition strategies.
