The second summer school of the MAKErS ITI
15 July 2025

The second Summer School of the MAKErS (Making European Society) Interdisciplinary Thematic Institute, entitled ‘Research Methods and Data on Europe – Issues and Uses’, took place this year from 1 to 4 July 2025 at several sites in Strasbourg (Centre culturel Saint-Thomas, Council of Europe, European Committee of Social Rights), in partnership with the GIS EURO-Lab – interdisciplinary research network on the European Union.
Over the course of a week, a succession of conferences and practical workshops were held to strengthen the methodological skills of doctoral students and young PhDs in order to improve the processing and analysis of their materials on Europe.
Twelve doctoral students in law, political science, economics, sociology and European studies from Belgian, French and German universities and institutes were able to present and discuss their work.
The Summer School combined introductory workshops for young researchers, practical workshops on ‘Doing textual analysis’ and ‘Creating and using a database using Eurlex’, lectures by prestigious guests such as Antoine Vauchez (political science, Université Paris 1), Vincent Réveillère (public law, Aix-Marseille Université), Jérôme Creel (economist, OFCE) and Olivier de Schutter (international law, Université Catholique de Louvain and European Committee of Social Rights), all punctuated by convivial moments.
