Ruth Oriama, BETA doctor, awarded by the World Bank

01 September 2025

BETA extends its warmest congratulations to Ruth Oriama, a BETA PhD graduate, who has been recognised as a “Human Rights Champion” by the World Bank’s Human Rights, Inclusion and Empowerment Trust Fund (HRIETF) for her “outstanding commitment and contributions to advancing human rights in development at the World Bank”. This distinction provides insight into the work carried out with the Ministry of Health and Social Services in Somalia to implement a human rights-based approach to primary health care.

In 2022, Ruth Oriama defended a thesis entitled “Towards a knowledge-based health bioeconomy in Kenya: an analysis in terms of the structure of information flows, rules, and goals of the socio-technical system” under the supervision of Professors Thierry Burger-Helmchen and Robert Mudida.
