Internship offer – ONE HEALTH Project (BETA, CIC-P)

06 February 2026

Project description

The ONE_HEALTH_BETA_CIC project is part of the interdisciplinary One Health initiatives that link human, environmental and animal health considerations. This project aims to evaluate the integration of public health, biodiversity conservation and environmental quality policies using data from the STANISLAS cohort. The project focuses on three main areas.

First, it examines the effect of diet, particularly ultra-processed foods, on cardiovascular health and chronic inflammation. We will analyse how socio-economic factors and the food environment influence food choices, as well as the link between food consumption and cardiovascular health. The aim is to identify the most vulnerable groups with a view to proposing preventive and local food policies. This area will also address the feedback effects of diet on environmental quality in order to generate co-benefits of preventive nutritional policies on the environment.

The second area focuses on the effects of the environment on health, particularly cardiovascular disease, through the effects of air quality, biodiversity loss and temperature, among other factors. This will involve cross-referencing geospatial and individual data, mapping co-exposure to environmental pressures, and using econometric models to explore the links between living conditions and cardiovascular health.

In the third area, we will study the effects of behaviour on exposure to natural environments. This involves studying the relationship between time spent in nature and indicators of cardiovascular health.

This interdisciplinary project combines economics and clinical cardiovascular epidemiology to generate cross-sectional analyses and concrete recommendations for local authorities (Metz, Nancy, Grand Est) in terms of health and environmental management. The work carried out as part of this project is part of challenge no. 3 of the LIFE TRAVEL programme, which aims to highlight the determinants of health and develop analytical tools and public policy instruments.

Internship tasks

The successful candidate will be involved in various activities planned as part of the research project, including:

  • Reviewing the literature on the links between the food environment and health impacts, particularly in the context of cardiovascular disease
  • Creating a database on the food environment (proximity to fast food outlets, supermarkets, etc.) and health expenditure at the municipal level
  • Participation in geospatial data entry

During this internship, the candidate will be responsible for creating databases from public sources. This work will require discussions with teams from both the CIC-P and Beta laboratories in order to create a tool that will be used in a multidisciplinary setting. The successful candidate may also be involved in other aspects of the project.
