16 April 2026
On Thursday 16 April 2026, the CNRS announced the recipients of its 2026 Silver Medals. The Bureau d’économie théorique et appliquée (BETA) is delighted to announce that Claude Diebolt, CNRS Research Director, member of BETA and former head of the unit from 2009 to 2012, is among the 26 recipients of this prestigious scientific award. We extend our warmest congratulations to him!
Awarded annually by the CNRS, the Silver Medal honours researchers for the originality, quality and significance of their work, recognised both nationally and internationally. It particularly recognises Claude Diebolt’s major influence in cliometrics, a discipline to which he has contributed significantly in terms of its development and international prominence.
As a representative of the CHPE (Cliometrics & History of Economic Thought) research group within BETA, alongside Maxime Desmarais-Tremblay, Claude Diebolt plays a central role in leading and shaping this field of research. This silver medal also follows on from other significant awards recognising his scientific and editorial commitment, notably as editor-in-chief of the journal Cliometrica. In 2024, he received the Cliometric Society’s highest honour, the Clio Can Award, and in 2025, the publisher Springer Nature awarded him the Editorial Contribution Award and the Author Service Award.
