Lecture by Anne-Laure Delatte, senior research fellow in economics at the CNRS, affiliated with Paris-Dauphine PSL University, and author of the book Riches ensemble ! (Seuil, Sept. 2026)
Abstract: No, France is not on the brink of bankruptcy. No, social spending is not spiralling out of control. Anne-Laure Delatte debunks the fear-mongering narrative surrounding the French economic model, whilst warning that it threatens a social model which has enabled a level of collective well-being unprecedented in history. To take up the fight and defend it, she proposes solutions to rectify past mistakes and ensure sustainable funding. Not only is France not on the brink of bankruptcy, but its model is a solid alternative to the authoritarian pro-business agenda and a bulwark against the far right.
Lecture introduced by Judith Kaiser, head of the Social and Solidarity Economy (ESS) research area at the IRTS de Lorraine, and moderated by Yamina Tadjeddine Fourneyron, professor of economics and deputy director of BETA
