Apprenticeship Opportunity – Data Management and Analysis for Forestry Research and Expertise

General context
The Observatory for the Forest Economy (OLEF) is a support platform for BETA. Its missions are to centralize and enhance information in order to support research, teaching and expertise activities, while ensuring the sustainability of the data.
OLEF is involved in several of the laboratory’s research projects, where it contributes to data management, organization, and processing. The platform also participates in expert projects aimed at producing socio-economic and environmental indicators to inform public policy decisions.
The OLEF team consists of a researcher and two research engineers. The intern will benefit from close support within a dynamic and supportive team, committed to fostering their skills development and autonomy.
Main missions
The intern will contribute to the management, processing and analysis of databases within the framework of the research and expertise activities carried out by the OLEF platform.
Activities that could be entrusted
- Integrate the data, check its validity and consistency
- Perform statistical processing and data analysis
- Managing a database
- Check and interpret the results of the treatments performed
- Produce graphical representations adapted to the presentation of results
- Develop and use scripts or programs dedicated to data validation and processing
- Automating data control and processing procedures
- Participate in the formatting, data analysis and presentation of results
- Contribute to the design of visualization tools (dashboards, infographics, maps, etc.)
- Participate in the drafting of reports and deliverables intended for partners.
Activities that could be entrusted
In accordance with the FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable), the intern will participate in:
- To guarantee the security, integrity and reliability of data
- Document the datasets and the processing implemented
- Contribute to the writing of data papers
- Prepare the data sets for deployment in dedicated repositories.
Desired profile
Third-year student in Data Science (BUT).
Expected skills
- Knowledge of statistical methods and tools/data analysis
- Knowledge of database management methods and tools
- Knowledge of best practices and regulations regarding data management, particularly personal data.
