Call for papers – Bulletin de l’Observatoire des Politiques Économiques en Europe

12 June 2025

The Observatoire des Politiques Économiques en Europe (OPEE) is calling for contributions to its journal, a peer-reviewed journal listed in the RePEc bibliographic database. The Bulletin publishes original articles exploring the cyclical and structural economic policies of the European Union (EU) and its member countries. It also looks at public actions that have a significant impact on these policies, particularly in the fields of the environment, energy, social issues and defence.

The Journal takes a multidisciplinary approach and welcomes contributions from other disciplines (political science, sociology, law, etc.), which provide a complementary perspective on European policies and the economy. The types of articles published include policy papers, literature reviews and summaries of recent research with implications for European economic policies.

The OPEE plans to devote a large proportion of the articles in the next two issues of the Bulletin to the impact of the current changes in the international context, marked by an intensification of geopolitical tensions and the resurgence of trade wars. These changes are having a profound impact on national and European economic policies, whether in terms of trade, the budget, industry, monetary policy or the ecological and energy transition.

With this in mind, the OPEE is launching a call for contributions for the next two issues of its Bulletin (December 2025 and July 2026), devoted to analysing the economic, institutional and social consequences of these tensions on European countries and on the economic governance of the Union. The following is a non-exhaustive list of some of the topics that could be addressed in this context:

  • European defence policy: economic and budgetary implications of new geopolitical priorities
  • Reorienting value chains: relocation, diversification of supplies, and European industrial strategies
  • European trade policy: between openness, strategic protectionism and economic sovereignty
  • Trade wars and imported inflation: impacts on monetary policy and the competitiveness of European economies
  • Investment and industrial policies: the EU’s response to technological rivalries (e.g. USA-China), the role of the European Investment Bank and European sovereign wealth funds
  • Energy security and green transition: the impact of conflicts on climate policies and energy diversification
  • Macroeconomic imbalances and budgetary coordination: European responses to geopolitical shocks.
