Title: Towards an Integrated Theory of Decision and Action
Abstract: Standard models of decision-making in economics often treat choice as a purely cognitive process, with action occurring only after a decision has been reached. In contrast, growing evidence from psychology and neuroscience suggests that decision and action are tightly intertwined. Signals supporting a choice appear to propagate continuously through perceptual, cognitive, and motor systems, shaping both the timing and the execution of behavior. This perspective invites a reconsideration of the relationship between preferences, evidence accumulation, and action. The talk reviews recent theoretical and empirical developments that point toward a more integrated theory in which decisions emerge from dynamic sensorimotor processes rather than from a strict separation between cognition and execution.
