Herrade Igersheim, holder of the Marc Bloch Chair at USIAS for 2026–2029

Congratulations to Herrade Igersheim, research director at the CNRS and director of BETA, who has just been appointed to the Marc Bloch Chair at the Institute for Advanced Studies at the University of Strasbourg (USIAS) for the period 2026–2029.

Established in honor of the historian Marc Bloch, who was a professor of medieval history at the University of Strasbourg from 1921 to 1936, the Marc Bloch Chair is dedicated to the humanities and social sciences and is part of a tradition of interdisciplinary research.

Founded in 2012, the Institute for Advanced Studies at the University of Strasbourg (USIAS) supports research by providing an environment conducive to reflection and interdisciplinary dialogue. The institute brings together holders of permanent chairs as well as researchers selected for the excellence and originality of their work.

Herrade Igersheim’s work draws on the history of economic thought, economic philosophy, and experimental economics as applied to the issue of voting. She has long been interested in the concept of “liberalism of freedom,” but more recently has also focused on the history of welfare economics, social choice theory, and women’s entrepreneurship during the Industrial Revolution.

This appointment will strengthen the presence of economics within the USIAS faculty.
