Jérôme Hergueux on France Culture for Wikipedia’s 25th anniversary

21 January 2026

Jérôme Hergueux, CNRS research fellow and author of the book ‘Wikipedia, or Imagine a World’ (2024, Rue d’Ulm editions), was a guest on the programme ‘25 Years of Wikipedia: A Utopia in Resistance’, broadcast on 16 January 2026 on France Culture – La Fabrique de l’information.

He points out that Wikipedia is first and foremost a digital commons based on decentralised collaboration between volunteers, unlike commercial platforms dominated by large tech companies. In this context, he stresses that the massive arrival of generative AI and the concentration of data among a few private players threaten this open model. In his view, defending and promoting these knowledge commons is essential to preserving neutral, free and democratic access to information.
