Carlos Berrout Amezaga, among the Alsatian finalists in the ‘My Thesis in 180 Seconds’ competition
12 March 2026
BETA is proud to announce that Carlos Berrout Amezaga, a PhD student at BETA, is one of the 12 finalists in the 2026 Alsatian edition of the ‘My Thesis in 180 Seconds’ (MT180) competition. Selected from 22 candidates, he will present his topic at the local final to be held on Thursday 19 March in Strasbourg.
On this occasion, Carlos will present his research, entitled: “Trust in Government and Macroeconomic Performance: An Integration of Theoretical Frameworks, Measurement Innovations, and Empirical Evidence from EU and OECD Countries”, which he is conducting under the supervision of Amélie Barbier-Gauchard, Professor at the University of Strasbourg, and Thierry Betti, Senior Lecturer at the University of Strasbourg. This is a great opportunity for the public to discover how institutional trust can influence – or even determine – a country’s economic trajectory.
The Alsace final will take place on Thursday 19 March 2026, at 2.30 pm, on the Esplanade campus of the University of Strasbourg. The event is free of charge upon booking and will also be streamed live on the Jardin des sciences YouTube channel.
Please feel free to share the news and come along to support Carlos, in the hope that his presentation will see him through to the Grand Est Final, which will take place on 19 April 2026 at the Jardin des Sciences Planetarium.
“My Thesis in 180 Seconds” is a national initiative led by the CNRS and France Universités.
In Alsace, the event is coordinated by the Jardin des Sciences at the University of Strasbourg and the CNRS Alsace delegation, in partnership with the University of Haute-Alsace. MT180 is supported by the Grand Est Region, the Eurométropole de Strasbourg, Strasbourg aime ses étudiants, the Société des Amis des Universités de l’Académie de Strasbourg, MGEN and Casden.
