Julien Pénin on France Culture: Carmat and the Economic Challenges of MedTech

On Monday, December 1, 2025, Julien Pénin, Professor of Economics at BETA (University of Strasbourg), appeared on the France Culture program Entendez-vous l’éco? to discuss the economic challenges faced by health-tech start-ups.
The episode, titled “Artificial Hearts Carmat: Are Health Start-ups Losing Investor Appeal?”, focuses in particular on Carmat, a French company pioneering the development of artificial hearts. Carmat has been under court-supervised restructuring since summer 2025, and its future was being decided at the Versailles Commercial Court at the time the program aired.
