« En transition socio·éco·logique » – Savoir(s) n°52 highlights the research of Magali Jaoul-Grammare and Anne Stenger

The latest issue of the University of Strasbourg’s magazine Savoir(s) spotlights the work on students’ pro-environmental behaviour by Magali Jaoul-Grammare and Anne Stenger, researchers at BETA.

Drawing on data from a national survey conducted in 2023 by the Observatoire de la vie étudiante (OVE) amongst 45,000 students, their study highlights the decisive role of education in the adoption of eco-responsible behaviours. In particular, it highlights the influence of educational attainment, informal education (conferences, campaigns) and other factors such as eco-anxiety or participation in sport.

The results also reveal differences across student profiles, whether in terms of the types of environmental issues they prioritise or the practices they adopt. One finding stands out clearly: education, in all its forms, is a key driver for encouraging sustainable behavioural change.

Building on this work, new questions have been included in the Student Life Observatory survey, which has been in circulation since spring 2026. The data, expected in 2027, will be the subject of a new study by the two researchers.
